On October 1, 2026, Florida's Children's Medical Services (CMS) Plan moved from Sunshine Health to Molina Healthcare of Florida. If your child gets ABA therapy through the CMS Plan, here is what changed, what stayed the same, and what to do if your current provider isn't contracted with Molina.
Autism Specialty Group is in-network with the CMS Plan by Molina, and we can start ABA therapy in Miami-Dade with no waitlist.
What changed
Molina Healthcare now runs the CMS Plan statewide, as the single plan offering all CMS Plan services. Sunshine Health ran it before October 1, 2026.
The CMS Plan is for children under 21 with special healthcare needs that require extensive preventive and ongoing care. It covers both Medicaid (Title XIX) members and Florida KidCare (Title XXI) members who pay a monthly premium.
According to Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), member benefits and covered services stay the same.
Do families need to do anything?
No new application was needed. Current CMS Plan members moved to Molina automatically on October 1, 2026.
To avoid gaps in care, the state set a continuity-of-care period of up to eight months:
Prior authorizations approved before October 1, 2026 are honored by Molina.
Existing appointments and prescriptions are honored.
Your child can keep seeing current providers until May 31, 2027, or until a new care plan is finalized and services are authorized, whichever comes first.
The key date is May 31, 2027. After that, your child's ABA provider must be contracted with Molina to keep serving CMS Plan members.
What it means for your child's ABA therapy
Provider contracts with Sunshine Health did not transfer to Molina. Each ABA provider has to contract with Molina directly to keep serving CMS Plan members after the continuity-of-care period.
If your child's provider is not in Molina's network, therapy may stop or be interrupted once that period ends. Ask your provider now whether they are contracted with the CMS Plan by Molina. Don't wait until spring 2027, when many families may be looking for a new provider at the same time.
If you'd rather move to a different plan, Florida Medicaid Choice Counseling can help (numbers below).
